We offer public and private LAMP trainings. Facilities can request to host public trainings at their facility at no cost to the host and receive 10 free seats for staff or pay a speaker fee for a private online or in-person training.


Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP™)

In-person and Online

Length: One Day

This course will cover the components of LAMP:

  • Readiness to learn.
  • Engaging the learner through joint engagement.
  • Learning language through a unique and consistent motor plan paired with an auditory signal and a natural consequence.

Discussion will include:

  • How this approach addresses the core language deficits of autism
  • Device features that are beneficial to teaching language
  • How to use those features to implement LAMP components
  • Videos will be used to illustrate the treatment components

PRC’s language system and devices will be used to illustrate treatment components; however LAMP principles can be applied to other products. Due to the limited duration of this course, hands-on time with devices will be limited to breaks.

Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) Extended Course: Highlighting Local Clients

In-person Only

Length: 1.5 Days

This course will cover the components of LAMP:

  • Readiness to learn.
  • Engaging the learner through joint engagement.
  • Learning language through a unique and consistent motor plan paired with an auditory signal and a natural consequence.

Discussion will include:

  • How this approach addresses the core language deficits of autism.
  • Device features that are beneficial to teaching language.
  • How to use those features to implement LAMP components.
  • Videos will be used to illustrate the treatment components.

In addition, this extended workshop will include videotaping of up to three local clients chosen by the host center on the day prior to the training. Those videos will be used to illustrate the components of LAMP and to facilitate discussion regarding assessment and implementation.

The videotaped clients are eligible to receive loaner devices for one month following this basic workshop to trial the LAMP approach. Those team members responsible for implementation need to be present throughout the training and would need to receive specific device training either through online e-trainings or through the local PRC consultant. This can be arranged with the Center for AAC & Autism prior to the workshop.

PRC’s language system and devices will be used to illustrate treatment components but LAMP principles can also be applied to other products. Participants will receive some hands-on time with the LAMP Words for Life language system; however this is not a device-specific training.

Moving Forward with LAMP

In-person

Length: One Day

This course is designed to further the communication partner's ability to implement the Language Acquisition through Motor Planning approach at different language stages and across environments. The language structure of the LAMP Words for Life language system and use of features to support language learning will be explored.

Participants will receive some hands-on time and are encouraged to bring their own device (Accent or iPad with WFL).

Discussion will include:

  • Assessing current language level
  • Setting goals for developmental progression
  • Analyzing data logging.

The presenter will cover a variety of strategies and supports to support language development such as:

  • Expanding vocabulary in natural environments
  • Modeling
  • Teaching the motor plan
  • How to use aided language input

Videotaped sessions will be used for group discussion about strategies that work and common mistakes. Suggestions for language development in school settings will also be addressed.

Previous attendance at a 1 day or 1.5 day Center for AAC & Autism LAMP Workshop is required to register for this course.

Moving Forward with LAMP on Accent

Online

Length: 2.5 hours

This online course is designed to further the communication partner’s ability to implement the Language Acquisition through Motor Planning approach at different language stages and across environments.

  • The language structure of the LAMP Words for Life language system and use of device features to support language learning will be explored.
  • Participants will receive some hands-on time and will need access to Accent device with NuVoice software or emulation software.
  • Discussion will include assessing current language level, setting goals for developmental progression, and analyzing data logging.

The presenter will cover a variety of strategies and supports to support language development such as:

  • Expanding vocabulary in natural environments
  • Modeling
  • Teaching the motor plan
  • How to use aided language input

Videotaped sessions will be used for group discussion about strategies that work and common mistakes. Suggestions for language development in school settings will also be addressed.

Previous attendance at a 1 day or 1.5 day Center for AAC & Autism LAMP Workshop is required to register for this course.

Moving Forward with LAMP on iOS

Online

Length: 2.5 hours

This online course is designed to further the communication partner’s ability to implement the Language Acquisition through Motor Planning approach at different language stages and across environments.

The language structure of the LAMP Words for Life language system and use of device features to support language learning will be explored. Participants will receive some hands-on time and will need access to an iOS dedicated device or the LAMP Words for Life app. (Professionals who evaluate and support individuals who use AAC will have an option to become an App Partner and receive a promo code. Prerequisites for this class are required before applying. Instructions will follow registration).

  • Assessing current language level
  • Setting goals for developmental progression
  • Analyzing data logging

The presenter will cover a variety of strategies and supports to support language development such as:

  • Expanding vocabulary in natural environments
  • Modeling
  • Teaching the motor plan
  • How to use aided language input
